I still can't believe they outsold Arashi's 1st week sales in a day!!
I've already spazzed in Arama and STAGE48, but I have to spazz here too (and then on twitter and then on last.fm xDDD) in order to contain my excitement!!

SO PROUD OF THE GIRLS

btw, while a lot of their music's appeal might depend on the person's taste for idols, Beginner is just TOO good x____x if you're just going to try out ONE song, and are just willing to give them ONE chance... this song should be it. seriously. omg.

not at all a bad song not one bit. and catchy chorus. just wont be listening again

my tastes require better music anyway....

but i understand why it sold more. its akb48 and it perfectly fits something that would appeal to people and a variety of them

congrats to the girls. but i think ill cry if they outsell hikki. but it would be so awesome for them, right? i mean. major accomplishment
the sales for this single are great.

id love to see it keep getting higher. its fun to watch.

"AKB48's new song "Beginner" opens the week with 568,095 copes sold during the first day. outselling all the first week sales for Arashi's singles this year!"

YES! This makes me just want to scream "GIRL POWER!!!" I'm so ridiculously happy they sold this well. It definitely seems like the million could be possible with this, but even 800k (which seems like a sure thing) would be incredible considering sales nowadays. I totally agree with apple-pi: this single is THE one and it totally deserves it.

So you're saying people who like AKB48 don't have good taste?

LIES.

kidding. Okay but on a serious note have you listened to their music? If yes have you listened to their music outside of their singles? They have a lot of songs some poppy, some more rock etc.

Some of the people I've come across who didn't like their music had only heard the singles. Though everyone does have different taste (I usually listen to stuff completely different) .

Just won the eBay auction for Beginner Limited Edition CD+DVD version A =] My first AKB48 purchase (not counting concert ticket at anime expo). I hope it comes with the voting code so I can vote for Erepyon's First Love......lol speaking of that....I was watching a AKB48 vids recently and I had a really horrid epiphany. Ono Erena most likely is my oshimen.......*facepalm*

depressing

^^The limited versions are just the 1st press of the two editions with alternate covers and the tickets so you should have them unless the seller removed them.

Even tho I'm not into AKB48 at all, I'm glad that finally female artists/idols can outsell boy bands finally.

If they manage to sell over 1.06 million copies on the first week, then yes they will kick hikki to no. 3, and they'll have the second highest debut weekly sales in Japan (no. 1 is still Mr. Children with >1.2 million copies back in 1996). Not a bad thing at all because the music industry will need some sparks. But yeah as a hikki fan it'll be sad to see hikki being kicked down to no. 3.

LOL....they didn't print enough copies to sell....missed beating Hikki by 30k (if they even sell that much).....although if not this one, they will probably pass 1.2 mill in a week by the end of next year. The way their popularity grows is pretty shocking.....like I found out about them first (ironically) through Hikki (she went to an AKB48 concert)....and I was like oh w/e....some idol girl group with 48 members....the next time was at Kohaku....I was like damn....so many girls on stage....but only payed attention to Ayu and Perfume....and then they sold like 300k in a week with Sakura no shiroi and it was like dayyyyyyum @__________@

so like...who even is their target demographic?

Cause like...apparently they can be quite inappropriate like other idol peoples, but then they tend to have a strong kid fanbase?

That's interesting lol Appeal to all ages.

I only saw one pv from them (can't remember the name). It's a girl undressing in a room (hotel room?). Then she had a blanket wrapping around her, and said the title before the scene changed into swimming pool. My brother showed me that because he thought the opening was like an AV scene . Oh and I have no idea how the opening scene connects to the main pv scenes.

But yeah, I wonder if they have lots of kid fans. If their pvs are similar to the one I saw, then I guess it's quite inappropriate for kids to watch them.

^LOL That's the Baby! Baby! Baby! PV! I think that song wouldve been one of their first true hits if it was released as a physical instead of digital only.

They have guy and girl fans where the ratio is like 60% to 40% or something. They have a lot of fans who are like university age and then on their radio shows they get mail from girls and young boys.

I don't know about kids though. Maybe somewhat after they did the Yasai Sisters thing (they dressed up as vegetables to promote this vegetable juice drink and there was also a song and PV) XD

I like that song for some reason.

I love you baby, baby, baby! ~ etc XD

Good thing it was on Kamikyokutachi even if it was a 2010 version with an extra Baby! in the title.
