Shortened performances

So I've noticed for a while now that when ayu performs a song on a show, the performance is always shorter than the original. Like a song on the single would be 4 minutes but the song and performance gets shortened to 2 or 3.

Is this because of time constraints to ensure all artists on a show will have adequate time to perform? If that's the case, do they shorten the performances for all the artists, or do just some artists get a shortened performance while other artists get a full one?

And does anyone know how they go about figuring out who to shorten?

hmmm....since they only promote the single, so they just sing a portion of the song. So, if you want to listen the longer/original version, buy the single. That's what I think~~

but sometimes she sing full song... for example Love song at Best Artist

I would think shows like MS and etc. they do it because they have so many artists performing, and they have an allocated amount of time to perform. At least that's what it seems like to me. As for BEST ARTIST, I think because it was a special, she got to sing the entire song. Don't they do the same thing for the MS specials as well?

They do that on all TV shows. Singers sing short versions of their songs so there is enough time for other content/topics.

They shortened the instrumental parts and one of the verses, it was not full, but there were no full parts(verses, choruses) taken out so it appeared to be full.

They do it for time reasons, every artist on the show means more viewers basically so they try to put lots of performances, interviews and commercials in the 30 mins or hour they got. If they shorten every performance by a minute that usually means time for one more performer, or maybe two sometimes.

yeah, japanese songs are usually more than 4 minutes, closer to 5 minutes, so they dont have enough time to perform all the song with all the other artists.
