Are you sure they don't count mu-mo sales?
Cause if so, official sales of some artists don't make sense... e.g. Kuu' s last two albums, which had FC versions, sold with normal editions according to Souncscan only about half of the offical sales. Where is fhe other half comig from, if not from FC and music card versions, which were sold through mu-mo (for music cards before they stopped counting)?

I'm pretty sure mu-mo doesn't count because it's owned by avex idk the exact reason but I have read that in quite a few places. bon voyage and walk of my life were both released before music cards stopped counting, so maybe from there. Soundscan has always been weird too IMO because sometimes the numbers on soundscan were higher than the ones on oricon. e.g. Perfume's star train single sold about 65'000 copies in the first week according to oricon but soundscan said it was over 80'000... so idk really the japanese counting system for records is a giant mess

Hm, yeah, but avex sold music cards only through mu-mo as well, not elsewhere, didn't they?
It is a bit of a mess.

aaaaah I mistook it sorry, Soundscan didn't count mu-mo and fanclub stuff but oricon does. Soundscan gave a nice insight about how many people order from the fanclub and stuff tho because you could look at the difference of sales.

Oricon counts how many copies were sold to the final consumer. Soundscan, if I'm not wrong, counts how much copies were sold to stores.
